HERO tackles Ireland’s retrofit gap by enabling local contractors to deliver high-quality home energy upgrades using a white-labelled One Stop Shop (OSS)
model.
By expanding capacity, building trust, and simplifying access to finance, HERO is designed to make deep retrofits more accessible, scalable, and impactful.
HERO aims to triple Ireland’s annual deep retrofit rate, from 1,336 to 4,500 homes per year within five years.
To achieve this, HERO will:
Establish a scalable white-label One Stop Shop service that simplifies retrofits for homeowners.
Expand the network of retrofit contractors from 20 to 80 to significantly boost nationwide capacity.
Develop a replicable model for European Member States, including Romania, Moldova, and Hungary.
HERO is set to deliver measurable, large-scale benefits for Ireland’s retrofit ecosystem and beyond:
HERO recently exhibited at the Ideal Home Show, a long-established consumer exhibition aimed at homeowners seeking practical inspiration, trusted advice, and solutions for upgrading and future-proofing their homes. Our presence focused on promoting our One Stop Shop offering to residential customers, while also using the event as an early soft launch of the HERO project. Given the strong attendance from contractors across the sector, the exhibition provided a valuable setting for informal conversations, allowing us to outline our ambitions for the project and to gauge early interest from potential pilot contractors.
HERO Pilot
Soft Launch
By the end of the pilot and soft launch, HERO will have:
HERO will train 15 contractors (5 in the pilot and 10 in the soft launch) to meet full OSS standards.
A total of 30 homes will be retrofitted, with 10 completed in the pilot and 20 in the soft launch.
The project will deliver 0.72 GWh each year in primary energy savings across participating homes.
A white-label IT platform will be deployed, including CRM, project management, and quality assurance tools.
Credit Union-linked finance pathways will be fully integrated to support participating contractors.
Ireland needs a faster, more efficient pathway to achieving its climate and energy goals. By empowering local contractors with the tools, training, and finance solutions they need, HERO unlocks a scalable and replicable model that benefits homeowners, contractors, communities, and the environment alike.
